This hands-on workshop invites participants to explore upcycling, guided by Shamin, founder of Pom’s Island and visionary behind the Mathaka project. In collaboration with SriLankan Airlines’ environmental team, Mathaka breathes new life into discarded materials, crafting eco-friendly toys that honour artisanal heritage.
We begin with a short film illustrating the journey of these reclaimed materials, unveiling how airline waste is repurposed into sustainable playthings. Under the expert guidance of Shamin and local artisans, you’ll learn the basics of crafting peg dolls, blending traditional craftsmanship with modern creativity. Each doll becomes a unique expression of sustainability, a small testament to the artistry and resilience of handmade crafts in a fast-paced world.
