Sri Lanka Design Festival '24
Imagine a future where creativity is a force that rallies business, education, and culture to build a better and more sustainable world. This is the vision that Sri Lanka Design Festival (SLDF) brings to life every year.
Amplifying ideas rooted in innovation, embracing sustainability and presenting novel ways of integrating tradition with technology, SLDF remains a key platform for showcasing Sri Lanka’s design and creative sectors to the world. Produced by the Academy of Design (AOD), the 2024 SLDF edition tells a new story about Sri Lanka through design, arts, crafts, dance, and music. Following several challenging years, SLDF highlights that Sri Lanka is not only an island paradise, consistently rated as one of the top ten destinations in the world but also a hub for design and creativity. It aims to redefine the narrative of Sri Lanka, showcasing the island's progress in design, creativity, and innovation as pillars that hold up the local economy. With this unique view of Sri Lanka, SLDF portrays interesting solutions to problems faced by creatives in a developing economy and how innovative mindsets support resilience and adaptability.
In this 15th edition, SLDF will highlight current challenges and opportunities in digital design, identity, and creativity. It aims to make design more accessible, inclusive, and sustainable, positioning it at the forefront of change. The 2024 SLDF programme has been curated to highlight how creative thinkers and doers make unique applications of traditional crafts with contemporary design, repurpose materials and processes to be friendlier to our planet, foster collaboration between diverse cultures and drive economic growth through innovation. It’s a rich lineup of design exhibitions, fashion shows, industry conferences, talks, workshops, and performances that await local and international attendees at SLDF this year.
It's a must-attend event in the South Asian cultural calendar; to network, meet local designers, and understand emerging opportunities in the region. It’s a celebration of people and companies that create, design, and innovate.
