Interior and Product Design Exhibition returns at SLDF 2024 as creative industries surge and festival marks 15 years

Updated: Oct 29

From November 07 to 10 at Cinnamon Life City of Dreams in Colombo, the Sri Lanka Design Festival’s (SLDF) 15th edition, themed ‘Innovation Island’, unfolds a business-to-business commercial programme alongside an inspiring public programme of immersive workshops, thought-provoking exhibitions and visionary talks led by local and global creative icons.

As Sri Lanka embarks on a new era of creativity and innovation, the SLDF announced the return of its successful Product and Interior Design Exhibition. After a hiatus, this key showcase is being relaunched to reflect the nation’s growing focus on local design-led industries and innovation, with a particular emphasis on products designed and made in Sri Lanka.

This year’s exhibition will be a display of innovation, with an exciting line-up of interior designers shaping the future of Sri Lankan design. Featured among them is Canvas Interior Design Studio, the official set designer of the SLDF. Alongside this, the visitors will be introduced to other renowned interior product companies, which are leading the transformation of Sri Lanka’s interior landscape. Commercial companies such as Alpha Industries, V K Enterprises and DD Deco will also unveil new products alongside many others showcasing innovations in furniture, lighting, flooring and wall finishes. These commercial players will be complemented by design showcases in visual communication, motion graphics and animation, further broadening the scope of the exhibition to encompass a variety of design fields. Additionally, a unique island craft showcase will offer a blend of tradition and modernity, ensuring that the exhibition highlights the full spectrum of creativity and functionality in Sri Lanka.

The Product and Interior Design Exhibition marks a complement in positioning Sri Lanka as a growing creative hub. As the world increasingly looks to design as a tool to solve global challenges, this platform offers Sri Lankan designers the opportunity to showcase their design talent in unique perspectives and products.

Held at the soon-to-open Cinnamon Life at City of Dreams Sri Lanka, the exhibition will be a key event in the 15th anniversary of the SLDF. Cinnamon Life, with its iconic architecture and emphasis on luxury, provides the perfect backdrop for the event, aligning with the festival’s focus on cutting-edge design and complementing its own unique interior perspectives and walkthroughs through the iconic spaces. The exhibition will not only inspire architects and interior designers but will also engage design enthusiasts with trends and ideas.

Founded by the Academy of Design (AOD), the SLDF has been a key platform for showcasing Sri Lankan design for over a decade. Over the years, the festival has evolved to include not only fashion and products but also craft and other spheres of design. The revival of the interior and product design segment signals an exciting return to the festival’s roots and promises to reignite the spotlight on the creative industries of Sri Lanka. The event offers a platform for both emerging talent and interior product design companies that can apply for participation through its website—visit www.srilankadesignfestival.lk.
